South of France
Gosh time flies! Much has happened since I last posted. We left our beloved boat Shangri La in St Jean de Losne in and headed for the south of France by train. We visited Avignon, Montpellier and Marseille spending a few days in each place.
Wow things are certainly changing for the better. Each time we visit France we can find more and more vegan options in restaurants and more and more vegan products in the shops. Wonderful! Avignon was a bit challenging as unknowingly we picked the time when there was an Arts and Theatre Festival on the go and the city centre was heaving with people. But we managed okay.
Montpellier was a surprise. I expected it to be a relatively small place, but it is one of the bigger cities in France. It has the biggest open city centre square in France and, being a university town we found several reasonably priced eateries with vegan options. We had lovely falafels, sweet potato fries and salad at Green Lab.
In Marseille we found one of the French organic fresh food markets. Just love them! Disappointingly, the one vegan restaurant recommended by people seemed to have closed. But again we found enough vegan options to eat.
Back in UK – Cornwall
We then headed back to UK and did some WOOFING! – No – nothing to do with dogs – Working on an Organic Farm. We spent 2 weeks on the Bosavern Community Farm in St Just near Penzance in Cornwall. A great experience, but hard work!
We have a new-found respect for farmers and will look at all fresh produce in the shops differently. So lovely to pick and eat such lovely fresh organic stuff. We also were involved in running the farm shop, and picking and packing the weekly veg boxes.
After that, we headed for Bath near Bristol where we are doing the Rachel Demuth’s Vegan Cookery Diploma – a 2 week hands on cookery course. At time of writing we are half way through and have already learned so much. My favourite so far is the Lemon and Almond Tart!
And if that is not enough we did a 1 day Instagram/Food Photography Course.
Sorry if this is more like a travel blog this time but wanted to keep you up to date with what we have been doing. The food pics and recipes will resume soon.
In the meantime – Bon Apetit.
